A percentage of Racontours’ profit is donated to the Wilderness Foundation conservation trust. In partnership with The Last Word Intimate Hotels we offer our guests beautiful pieces in our Living Endangered range – tooled leather fashion handbags as well as a range of jewellery in precious metals and stones which commemorate several of the lesser known rare and endangered species of our region.
They are the Cape geometric tortoise, leatherback and loggerhead turtles, Table Mountain ghost frog, Knysna seahorse, and the golden protea. Jeweller and artist Shelley Robertson creates this in-vogue and unique jewellery in her Cape Town workshop. She believes jewellery makes a personal statement and expresses gratification. Specifically selected, traditional precious metals and stones embrace her designs and appreciation of the wild. She animates life.
The Wilderness Foundation was the brainchild of legendary conservationist Ian Player (brother of the more clubby Gary), and was instrumental in saving the white and black rhino species from the verge of extinction in South Africa.
