Eric Spencer first began leading interested Capetonians around their city over 12 years ago. While teaching South African and world history at a private high school in Cape Town he was requested to introduce city walks for adults as part of a school fundraising effort. The requests came as members of the community began to appreciate the wealth of stories, anecdotes, facts, and understanding he’d gained over many years of research and reading about the city he loves. Years of wondering the city streets never ceased to whet his curiosity. Eric especially enjoys linking the fascinating history of Cape Town with world historical events, and thus to his own formal studies and travels: He holds a Foreign Service degree from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., USA where he studied world history, diplomacy, and humanities in international affairs; and he has himself travelled extensively to more than 40 countries.
