STORY TELLER TOURS

Every tou with the Story Teller is something special and unique. No tour is ever the same, with the route taking a life of its own as guide David Bristow and your private party get to know one another and the story unfolds. It would be designed to entertain children or take a more academic approach.

A Story Teller tour is a little bit … make that a lot different from any other offered on the local scene. It revolves around the most fascinating events and personalities that went into creating Cape Town. Each tour is designed to visit places that showcase one of the pieces of the historical puzzle. In this way the deeper soul of the city is revealed, on top of the more obvious visual feast that every changing vista suggests.

There is Table Mountain, but why is it like it is: why flat-topped, and how old is it? Then there is the fynbos, which we all claim to know and love: but how did it get here, and why did it take the forms it did. Who left the biggest visible legacy in the city, and where are the standout pieces of architecture to be found?

Even, why do we speak mainly English here, instead of say French, Portuguese, or Khoi. And who were these Khoi and what happened to them? Or, why was a pile of rocks on the beach critical to the development of Charles Darwin’s later work? There is a story of every day of the season, and every part of the city, stories you otherwise wouldn’t get to hear.

For those interested, a guided tour of Robben Island can be included in any tour: it lasts about three hours, including the ferry trip there and back.
